Srinagar : Government employees, mostly spouses of the J&K Police officials posted in different departments including education /health department at secure places in Srinagar and adjoining areas are allegedly being asked by concerned Departments to join their postings in the areas which as are “vulnerable”, thus leaving them in jeopardy.

Some of the employees told that they were placed in various parts of Srinagar, Budgam and other adjacent areas to render their services after proper threat assessment by the Police. “Given our spouses being deployed in the Police department and constantly remaining in the crosshairs of the enemies, who could have inflicted harm anytime on us as well, we were relocated in view of this concern,” they said. “The recent killing of Rahul Bhat, a government employee, has shaken us.”

They said since the day of the killing they have been worried about their families and appealed to authorities to look into the matter on priority so that they would not be harmed. “Our families have suffered earlier at the hands of militants and we do not want to get harmed again,” they said and appealed LG Manoj Sinha led administration to take appropriate measures and save their families.

The aggrieved employees alleged that they are now being asked to re-join their original places of postings, which augurs ill for them as they are feeling unsafe to move those places, mostly in the remote places, amid the prevailing situation in the Valley.

A communique from a senior official to subordinate stated that the deployment/transfer of teachers/RRTs of other districts whose transfer/deployment has expired is forwarded to the head of Institution for information and immediate compliance.

“The HOIs (Head of Institutions) concerned are advised to direct the deployed/transferee’s officials working in their institutions to report back to their original substantive basis forthwith…,” reads the communique, a copy which lies with KDC.

“Such orders are akin to make us count our days as the miasma of the valley vindicates our claims which are undergird by the recent target killings,” the employees said while imploring for the revocation of such order. (KDC)
