Amid tall claims of remote reach out Wagad village of Tral lacks availability of basic facilities

SRINAGAR: Mocking at the tall claims of the State Authority and back to village program about providing of basic facilities to the people living in remote areas of the Jammu and Kashmir, Wagad Village of Tral still lagging and lacks the amenities with people accusing the successive government of indifference.

The Wagad village in Tral area of Aripal helmet, which is just 07 kilometers from Tral Town, lacks basic facilities such as electricity, water education and health care.

“The residents of the village are consuming water of the nearby stream due to which the threat of waterborne diseases looms large, particularly during the summer,” the locals said.

As the Village is located on sloppy region and the Village land has developed cracks at many locations.

“During rains, we have sleepless nights, fearing that the cracks would deeper further and would cause damage to our homes”, said Abdul Rashid, a local resident. The residents also complained about non-availability of electricity in the area.

“The area is also without a proper healthcare facility as a result of which the patients have to tread miles to seek consultation for their ailments. “The village does not have a Primary Health Centre and the families have to take the patient to Aripal or even Tral sub-district hospital” the locals added.

According to the locals, the politicians come to the village to garner votes during electioneering and assure that they would redress the grievances of the people. “However, after coming to power, they forget their promises and never return to the area,” the residents said adding that the successive regimes had failed to provide them the facilities they had been craving for years.

“The village has a population of 2100 and we have only one primary school in our village. However the building of the school was constructed by local Auqaf committee”, said another local.

“In the name of infrastructure, the school has only five rooms including one office even when it has been established in 1969 some five decades ago”, he added.

“A total of 100 students are enrolled here while some six teachers have been posted in this school, but the shortage of space is forcing the school going children to remain confined to the four walls of their homes” said locals.

“The school, however, doesn’t only grapple with the problem of lack of teaching staff but it also lacks basic infrastructure like classrooms, playing field.

Moreover the walnut trees in school ground are posing threat to students. Some branches are resting on the gabble and hip of the truss of the and building” they lamented.

Meanwhile the residents also blames the Irrigation department for Poor maintenance of irrigation canal ” kavkoul” canal by irrigation department is draining out tones of litres of water every day, which results in scarcity of water for irrigation of agricultural land.

The canal has developed cracks along its walls which have not been plugged. The seepages are visible at many locations, and there is no control of leakages from the cracks”, locals said.

They also said,” there is complete neglect of repairs to the canal. The walls on both sides of canal are broken at many places leading to leakage through gaps. Neither is the civic administration nor is the irrigation department serious about its maintenance, locals added.

The residents also allege that irrigation department has been negligent about curbing the water loss from the canal. For many years the canal has not been repaired.

The canal is under irrigation department and we are paying large amount of money every year as a fee to irrigation “, Locals added.

The residents of the area sought the intervention of Governor in this regard. (PTK)
