Leh: Ahead of the first meeting of 6th Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Bharatiya Janata Party’s General Secretary for J&K and Ladakh Union Territories has reached the region to decide on new chief executive councillor and executive councillors of the body.
A source told that Koul reached Leh this afternoon to hold talks with party’s leaders and winning candidates over CEC and ECs.
“No final decision has been taken yet but some names have been suggested to the party leadership,” he said, adding that the name of CEC is expected to be finalized tomorrow. In the recently held election, BJP won 15 seats while Congress and independents bagged nine and two seats respectively.
The outgoing CEC, Gayal P Wangyal, lost the election, prompting BJP to look for a new face for heading the Council.
The source said that administration of Union Territory of Ladakh would also soon nominate four councillors, which will take the Council’s strength to 30.
It is worthwhile to mention here that administration in Leh has decided to convene first meeting of new council on October 31—(KNO)
