Srinagar: To undo the recent mass cancellation of tour bookings to the State, Jammu and Kashmir Tourism department will embark on the second phase of the promotional campaign in Bangladesh, Malaysia and Thailand.
Notably, the department has already conducted server road shows within and outside the country besides participated in the most popular travel marts to attract travellers to J&K.
However, the recent mass cancellations have dipped the tourist arrivals and caused strain in the travel trade sector.
Secretary Tourism Rigzin Samphel said after taking local travel and hospitality sector on board, the department will further organise interactions with the travel sector from these countries to motivate them to market J&K.
He said a 10-member team including senior officers from the department along with the local stakeholders will be visiting these countries to tap the market from there.
“Tourists are visiting the state and enjoying their holidays here. We will visit these countries and convince the potential travellers and travel agents that J&K is safe to visit,” he said.
Samphel said J&K saw a 45 per cent increase in the tourist arrivals from Malaysia, Thailand and Bangladesh in the year 2018.
“We don’t want to lose out on the gains we made last year on foreign as well as domestic arrivals. We will capitalize on the good response J&K received from foreign travellers over the past few years while also visiting key destinations within the country.” (KNS
