Senior Citizen Day Care Centre in Srinagar emerges as activity hub for elderly

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has established residential old age homes in 19 districts where senior citizens are offered healthcare facilities and recreational activities, reveals the official data accessed.

It states that three senior citizen day care homes are presently operational in Jammu and Srinagar cities, providing secure spaces for elderly citizens to socialize and avail necessary services.Two old age homes at Anantnag and Ganderbal were built in 2023-24 for Rs 21 crore, providing shelter and care to elderly population, the data reveals.

As many as, 809 special camps for senior citizens were conducted in the Union Territory and were attended by 51,000 senior citizens.The data, according to KNO, also states that 31 geriatric caregivers have been trained to deliver specialized social services to elderly citizens, ensuring their physical and mental well-being.

Furthermore, it also reveals that the government has reached out to 7,22,093 elderly citizens through various welfare schemes and programs during 2024-25, aiming to cater to the social and healthcare needs of the elderly population.

“The Senior Citizen Day Care Centre in Srinagar has emerged as a hub of activities for the elderly, offering recreational activities, counselling sessions, and periodic health check-ups,” the data adds—(KNO)
