Sopore : Scores of residents including women of Gousia Colony of Sopore area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday staged a protest against Jal Shakti department for ‘failing’ to provide them regular water supply.
The protesters assembled at Iqbal Market and blocked the main road outside Jal Shakti department office in Sopore, affecting the traffic movement for several hours.
The protesters said that the residents are facing water shortage since last many years and authorities hardly bother to look into this grave issue.
They said that their area in the entire town is worst affected due to non- availability of adequate water supply.
Tariq Ahmad Wani, one of the protesters told KNO that they approached the concerned officials many times but nothing has been done in this regard. “We are being forced to drink contaminated water, which has affected our health,” he said.
Meanwhile, officials in Jal Shakti department Sopore told KNO that the grievances of the people will be resolved soon as the department will come up with a separate water supply line towards the locality so that their sufferings will come to an end—(KNO)
