Rajouri: Four militants were killed in an encounter with government forces at Sunderbani sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in the border district of Rajouri district on Wednesday.
Official sources told Srinagar-based news agency GNS that the militants were killed in the gunfight at Ravarian Talla village in Sunderbani.
The operation was launched after a sentry of CRPF camp (72 bn) detected some suspicious movement wearing combat dress at around 7:00 am and alerted other troops about it. Soon a joint team of army, CRPF, and SOG cordoned off the entire area and launched massive searches to trace out the suspected militants.
SSP Rajouri Yougal Manhas told GNS during the searches, three bags of ammunition and explosive material were recovered from the spot.
Later, as the searches were intensified, the militants hiding in the area opened fire upon the joint team, triggering off an encounter, he said.
In the gunfight which continued till 5:00 pm, four militants were killed and the operation has been called off. The bodies of the slain militants were recovered along with as many AK rifles and other warlike stores.
Earlier, PRO CRPF Ashish Kumar Jha had said that no attack was carried out by the militants on the paramilitary camp in Sunderbani. However, he said that the alert troops detected some suspicious movement and the search operation was launched.
The schools in the area were closed for today by the district administration in Sunderbani sector as a precautionary measure.
“The schools were closed in the Sunderbani division as a precautionary measure,” DC Rajouri told GNS. (GNS)
