Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Pulwama, Waheed-Ur-Rehman Parra on Thursday criticised the government over the cancellation of 1.27 lac ration cards in Jammu and Kashmir, questioning the basis of the cancellation.Reacting to the central government’s recent revelation that 1.27 lac ration cards have been cancelled in Jammu and Kashmir since 2013, PDP leader Waheed Parra criticized the government’s silence on the issue.Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Parra expressed concern over cancellation, “On what basis has the government canceled 1.27 lakh ration cards in J&K? Lakhs received additional ration under Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme with the aim of fighting hunger. However, govt’s silence on this critical issue, despite big claims of increased ration quantities in their manifesto, is shocking & indicative of a tactical understanding. The move, according to Minister of State Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, was part of a broader initiative to eliminate ineligible beneficiaries through digital verification methods, such as Aadhaar linkage and e-KYC.The minister has also highlighted that nearly 100% of ration cards in J&K were now Aadhaar-seeded and has enabled the identification of ineligible beneficiaries due to migration, duplicate entries, and deaths—(KNO)
