DC visits fire-affected families, provides immediate relief

Kulgam: At least three houses were gutted in a fire incident in the Poniwah village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday night, leaving one house owner injured and hospitalized.Officials told that the fire, which broke out at midnight, spread rapidly to adjacent houses.Fire tenders were rushed to the spot immediately after the incident was reported. Despite their efforts, the fire destroyed three houses, including valuables such as cash and gold. “One of the house owners also sustained injuries during the incident and was provided medical attention,” officials said.“We have lost everything today: our home, our belongings, and our sense of security. Our families are left with no shelter, and our only hope now rests with the government,” said a member of one of the affected families.Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, visited Poniwah village to provide immediate relief to the fire-affected families.This was the second fire incident in the district within two days.On Tuesday night, in the remote Cheki Wangam village of Damhal Hajipora in Kulgam district, four families were rendered homeless after their residential houses were reduced to ashes in a similar fire incident.The district administration has urged residents to exercise caution and adhere to safety measures to prevent such tragedies, particularly during the winter season—(KNO)
