Vehicles of peddlers seized in Sgr, Awantipora

Srinagar: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police in Srinagar on Tuesday said to have seized vehicles acquired through proceeds of illegal narcotics trade.“Srinagar Police has seized vehicle bearing registration No. JK01J-7081 from two drug peddlers namely Asif Ahmad Sheikh and Arif Ahmad Sheikh, both residents of Babapora Barthana. Both the accused persons have been arrested vide case FIR No.136/2024 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act of PS Parimpora and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued.During the financial investigation of the case, it came to fore that the vehicle was acquired through proceeds of illegal narcotics trade by these accused persons. The seizure of the vehicle has been made under the provisions of section 68 of NDPS Act, police said.Meanwhile, Police in Awantipora have seized a vehicle (Four-Wheeler Car) valuing approximately Rs 3.30 lakhs, belonging to notorious drug peddler Jitender Singh son of Nirmal Singh resident of Gamraj Tral under section 68-Of NDPS Act 1985.The vehicle was identified as illegally acquired property during the course of enquiry conducted by SHO Police Station Tral under the supervision of SDPO Tral which has been acquired from illicit trafficking in Narcotic drug and Psychotropic Substances by the said drug peddler, police said.Pertinently the said drug peddler is involved in a case under FIR number 28/2024 NDPS Act of PS Tral and a case under FIR number 139/2021 NDPS Act of PS Awantipora.“This operation reaffirms the commitment of Police to combat the drug menace. Local people of the area hailed the initiative of Police with regard to the attachment of moveable property which was acquired been from illicit trafficking of narcotics by the drug peddlers in the Police District Awantipora,” police said—(KNO)
