SRINAGAR: The alleged mastermind of Asifa rape and murder has surrendered before the Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday.
Pertinently, the Kathua minor girl Asifa rape and murder case on 08 March took a new turn after two more policemen were arrested by the Crime Branch for destroying crucial evidences, with these arrests the toll of arrested policemen mounts to four. As one of the main accused of crime Deepak Khajuria and Surinder Verma both Special Police Officers have already been put behind the bars along with two more persons, including a juvenile.
Today, Sanji Ram 60, an ex-revenue official who was wanted by CB for his alleged role in the abduction rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl Asifa of Rasana Village in Hiranagar of Kathua district surrenderred.
Sanji’s son Vishal, co accused in the case, was arrested by a special team of CB from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.
So far CB has arrested eight people including two Special Police Officers (SPOs) Deepak Khajuria and Surinder Verma, Subam Sangra and Parvesh Kumar for their involvement in the horrific and brutal crime of minor nomad girl.
The alleged mastermind was also seen actively taking part in protests by Hindu Ekta Munch (HeM) earlier—the right-wing group which was formed after the crime took place.
HEM had taken our rallies against the arrest of accused persons and demanded the transfer of the case to CBI.
Asifa was kidnapped from Rasana village on January 10. According to investigations, she was drugged and held captive for a week before being murdered. (KNB)
