Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said to have arrested six drug peddlers in Baramulla, Budgam, Handwara & Ganderbal and recovered contraband/ psychotropic substances from their possession. A police party of Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Old Town, intercepted two persons identified as Shahid Bilal Shah son of Bilal Ahmad resident of Janbazpora & Suhail Ahmad Bhat son of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Ladoora Rafiabad. During the search, 380 tablets of Alprazolam were recovered from their possession, a police spokesman said in a statement issued.In a similar action by Police in Budgam, a Police Party of PP Pakherpora intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag at Kanidajan near Gund Shamus Crossing. He has been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Sheikh son of Ab Gani Sheikh resident of Pakharpora. During the search, 60 grams of Charas and cash of Rs 200 was recovered from his possession, police said.Meanwhile in Handwara, a Police team led by SHO Handwara at a checkpoint established at Wateyen Chogul, arrested two drug peddlers identified as Khalid Gani Shah son of Ab Gani Shah and Basharat Bashir Khan son of Bashir Ahmad Khan, both residents of Maidan Chogul. During the search, 16.92 grams of Heroin was recovered from their possession, police said.In Ganderbal, a Police party of PS Kangan at a checkpoint established at Hayan Bridge, arrested a drug peddler identified as Ghulam Qadir Mir son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir resident of Cherwan Kangan riding a Scooty bearing registration number JK16B-4790. During the search, Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession. The Scooty used in the commission of crime has also been seized, the statement added.All the accused persons have been shifted to respective police stations and cases under relevant sections of law have been registered regarding these incidents, police said.“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with Police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society.
