Udhampur: In a tragic road accident in the Salmedi area of Udhampur district, around 30 people sustained injuries, with most of the victims being students from a local nursing college. The accident occurred when a mini-bus carrying passengers from Salmedi towards Udhampur lost control and veered off the road, falling into a nearby ditch.
The bus had just commenced its journey to Udhampur when it reportedly went out of the driver’s control, resulting in the vehicle skidding off the road. The impact left approximately 30 passengers injured, many of them nursing students traveling to Udhampur for their classes. Local residents, upon hearing of the accident, rushed to the scene and alerted police authorities. They, along with the police, initiated a rescue operation and quickly transported the injured to GMC Udhampur, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
District Commissioner, Saloni Rai, who arrived at the accident site, stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident. “At present, around 30 people are receiving treatment for their injuries, and we are looking into the details of what led to this unfortunate incident,” the Commissioner stated. Most of those injured are reported to be students from government nursing colleges in the area.
