SRINAGAR: Scores of Kashmir based contractors’ stage protest at Press Enclave against government for not releasing pending dues.

Protesting contractors announced to boycott all developmental works and tenders till pending payments are not released. The protesting contractors were demanding release of pending payments worth Rs 350 crore from various government departments and doing away with the online bill payment system.

Meanwhile Police foiled their attempt to march towards chief minister Mehbooba Mufti’s Gupkar residence. As soon as they step out of the enclave to march towards the CM’s residence at Gupkar, police swung into action and bundled several protesters in their vans.

Later, they burned the effigy of the state finance minister Haseeb Drabu at Press Colony in Lal Chowk.

J&K Central Contractors Coordination Committee, general secretary Farooq Ahmad Dar said government has been showing an “indifferent attitude” towards Valley based contractors “All the funds lapsed in Kashmir are being diverted towards Ladakh and Jammu.

“The online system of billing introduced by the state government is not suitable for Kashmir where every now and then there is e-curfew,” Dar said. (PTK)
