Sgr traffic police, MVD Kashmir launch joint crackdown on number plate violations

Srinagar: The authorities in Traffic Police Srinagar City in collaboration with the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) Kashmir have conducted a joint enforcement drive to act against the commuters involved in violations related to the number plates.The drive, as per the officials, was conducted against the violators using masked, tampered, or false registration number plates, saying that they would intensify enforcement and crackdown in the coming days.The authorities warned that driving with such illegal modifications would be a serious offence and punishable with imprisonment and fines up to Rs 5000.City traffic police in a tweet on X wrote, “Traffic City Srinagar Conducted Drive Against Violators Masking Number Plates. Driving Any Vehicle With Tempered Or False Registration Number Plate Is An Offence. Which Could Lead To Imprisonment And Fine Upto Rs 5000.”As per the city traffic police authorities, during the drive, several vehicles were checked and violators were penalized.The traffic police officials said the initiative aims to curb the growing trend of number plate tampering, which poses a challenge to traffic management and law enforcement.In addition to the enforcement drive, an awareness session was also organized by Traffic City Srinagar and MVD Kashmir.
