Overnight rains lash Sgr among other J&K parts

Srinagar: The overnight rains lashed Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir among a few areas of the Union Territory while the weatherman here has predicted the possibility of flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides, shooting stones and the heavy rainfall at few places for the next two days.

Details available Srinagar has recorded the highest precipitation than other areas where a rainfall of 22.8 mm was recorded till 08:30 AM today.

Pahalgam and Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, recorded the precipitation of 4.8 mm and 8.0 mm respectively.

Moreover, the mercury continued to record the upward trend with Srinagar recording a maximum temperature of 32.1 degree Celsius while Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir, recorded 31.0 degree Celsius.

Pahalgam recorded a maximum temperature of 26.5 degree Celsius while the mercury settled at 32.6 degree Celsius in Kupwara. The data further reveals that Kokernag and Gulmarg have recorded a maximum temperature of 30.7 degree Celsius and 21.0 degree Celsius respectively.

Jammu was the hottest today with 34.9 degree Celsius while the mercury in Banihal and Batote settled at 31.2 degree Celsius and 27.9 degree Celsius respectively.

Katra and Bhaderwah also recorded a maximum temperature of 32.4 degree Celsius and 31.7 degree Celsius respectively.

Meanwhile, the weatherman here has stated that intense showers for brief period with possibility of flash floods, cloud bursts, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones are expected over vulnerable places of J&K during the next two days.

Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that heavy rainfall is also expected at a few places of J&K during the next two days.

Besides, for the next two days, he said that brief spells of rain and thundershower at few places are expected during day time with spells of light to moderate rain and thundershower at many places of J&K towards night and early morning.

On August 08 to 10, brief showers during daytime with a spell of rain and thundershower at scattered places of Kashmir division & many places of Jammu division is expected mainly during late night and early morning.

From August 11 to 13, a brief spell of rain and thundershower is expected at scattered places of Kashmir division and fairly widespread places of Jammu division—(KNO)
