Kargil (Drass): Waves of sorrow surrounded the whole of Kargil on Friday as the war heroes, the brave hearts who fought for the nation during the Kargil War in the late 1990s, were honoured at Drass on the occasion of the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Among others present at the Drass War Memorial, the wife of late soldier Ganesh Prasad Yadav became emotional as her late husband was honoured with India’s highest military decoration—the Param Vir Chakra.
Yadav was awarded for exceptional bravery. His wife said, “I am immensely proud of my husband’s sacrifice for our country. At that time, our children were very young, and managing life was incredibly tough. Yet, I took care of them and myself.”
Amid moist eyes, she recalled the harrowing period following her husband’s death: “His body arrived after forty days, and we were in a very difficult situation. Despite this, we remain immensely proud of him and his contribution to our nation.”
