Protest against rape and murder of minor Kathua girl erupt in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Hundreds of activist from different social organizations on Wednesday held sit in protest at Press Enclave Srinagar against the rape and murder of 8-yrs-old girl Asifa minor girl of Kathua Jammu.

The protest jointly organized by J&K RTI Movement, Civil Society for Justice and Development, Gujjer- Bakerwal Foundation, Gujjer-Bakerwal Youth Conference, SAIRAB saw the participation of hundreds of activists including  Dr. Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, Zeeshan Pandith, Inam ul Nabi (Political Analyst) Mushtaq ul Haq Sikandar (CSDJ Convener), Tauseef Raina, Bilal Bashir Bhat, Aman Qadri, Mehreen Zaffer, Shafiya, Asiya Rather,  Deeba, Ansaa and others.

The protestors holding the placards raised slogans like “Asifa hum Sharminda hai tumaray qatil zinda hai,” “We Want Justice,” “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Nara Kaha Gaya” etc.

Interacting with the media on the occasion, Dr Sheikh Ghulam Rasool expressed dismay over the ‘criminal silence’ adopted by the Civil Society of Kashmir, he said the racist approach adopted by the Civil Society over the Kathua incident is unfortunate which exhibits their partial activism. Demanding justice for minor Asifa and Civil Society monitoring in the case Dr Sheikh Ghulam Rasool said issuing statements on government will yield no result but to bring the involved in this crime under justice.

Inam ul Nabi on the occasion said the we are deeply pained about murder of an 8-year old girl in a the incident is sheer condemnable. He said perpetrators of this dastardly act should be given severest possible punishment under the law.

“State is becoming too callous when it comes to the security of citizens particularly girls and women. With the brutal rape and murder of Aasifa the incumbency of government and police is evident. We need to struggle for justice and bring the culprits to book,” said Mushtaq ul Haq Sikandar. (KNB)
