Srinagar: The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) from Anantnag constituency, Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi has performed better in parliament in comparison to the erstwhile MP of the house, Mehbooba Mufti from 2019-24.
According to PRS Legislative Research, a non-profit organization tracking performance of parliamentarians and legislators, Masoodi, who represents Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency, has an overall attendance of 85 per cent.
Masoodi, whose term started from May 2019, has not missed even a single session since he assumed as Member of Parliament.
He has 100 percent attendance in Budget Session 2024, Special session 2023 and Winter Session 2022 followed by nearly 90 per cent in several other sessions.
Masoodi has participated in 126 debates during his tenure as MP in the 17 Lok Sabha.
According to the Research, Masoodi has asked 73 questions in the 15 parliament sessions of his tenure. His questions were primarily focused on development and unemployment related matters.
However, the erstwhile MP from the similar constituency, Mehbooba Mufti from 2014-2016, has comparatively performed less than Masoodi.
Although Mehbooba couldn’t continue as MP for more than two years as she assumed the chair of J&K’s first woman chief minister during PDP-BJP bonhomie.
Mehbooba has asked 26 questions and participated in nine debates only during her tenure as MP from 2014-16—(KNO)
