Srinagar: Warden wetlands division Kashmir has called for urgent preservation of the Valley’s wetlands saying wetlands are shrinking rapidly and there is an urgent need to safeguard them.
Ifshan Devan, Warden Wetlands Division Kashmir, told media at Hokersar Wetland Conservation Reserve, according to the news agency, that there was an urgent need to preserve wetlands.
He said that wetlands are shrinking rapidly and it is crucial to save them.
On February 2, an event was held to mark World Wetlands day aimed at raising awareness about the importance of wetlands. This day also marks the anniversary of the Convention on Wetlands which was adopted as an international treaty in 1971.
