BMJA core group holds meeting, asks Govt, media associations to ensure journalists welfare

SRINAGAR: A core group meeting of Broadcast & Multimedia Journalists Association (BMJA) was held today in Srinagar to discuss the measures for Journalist Welfare in Kashmir.

Many working journalists and Photo/Video Journalists from Newspapers, television, Radio and Online Media from across the valley attended the meeting to deliberate upon the problems faced by them on organizational level and in the field.

Among the issues, the BMJA discussed the risk covers, meager wages, annual hikes and professional securities for the journalist. The BMJA assured members to raise these issues for the redressal before the media houses. The core group also discussed the problems faced by the non-accredited journalists.

BMJA also appealed Director Information to issues identity cards to the non accredited journalists as no one is lesser journalist. BMJA expresses concern over the negligence of information department towards the non accredited journalists adding that the young journalists are future of the media industry in the valley.

BMJA also appealed the editors and other media associations of the Valley to take measures for the safeguard and welfare of journalists irrespective of seniority, accreditation and brands.

BMJA believes that the media fraternity has to be united for betterment of fraternity and to avoid losing dedicated journalists due to the prevailing insecurities.
