Srinagar: People’s Democratic Party leader and Constituency incharge for Habba Kadal, Arif Laigroo, hits out at the LG administration over installation of smart-cum-prepaid meters in Srinagar.

Arif Laigroo, reacting over the protests against installation of smart meters in Habba Kadal and other areas of Srinagar said, “There’s no administration on ground to hear the cry of people. It’s been a while now, since people started protesting against installation of smart meters, but those at the helm of affairs don’t seem to be bothered all.”

“Bureaucrats sitting in AC rooms at the cost of taxpayers money, mercilessly issue orders for installation of electricity meters in the homes of common people” said Laigroo.

Voicing the plight of people, Arif Laigroo said that people of Jammu and Kashmir are going through the worst possible times of high inflation and unemployment rates and therefore, the administration’s move to install electricity meters right in the middle of summer is unfortunate and would only add to the misery of people.

Laigroo while talking about residents in his Constituency of Habba Kadal said, “Most of the people in Habba Kadal live from hand to mouth. The situation is so dire that after the installation of smart meters, people in Habba Kadal would either have no electricity or no food to eat.”

Laigroo urged the UT administration to reconsider its move of installing smart electricity meters and provide relief to people.

“The administration should be looking for ways to provide welfare to the public instead of forcing people to come on to the streets”, added Laigroo.
