Tracks leading to holy cave being maintained well, other measures taken in wake of last year’s incident: DG BRO
Srinagar : The government on Saturday said that adequate arrangements are being put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the annual Amarnath yatra—2023 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, J&K, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar said that the government has already geared up to make adequate arrangements for the yatra this year.
“We are making adequate arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Rajeev Chaudhry, Director General Border Roads Organisation (BRO), while addressing the media persons after inspecting the track from Batlal to Amarnath cave, said that both the routes are expected to be completed by June 15 following which the other departments will start their arrangements for the annual Amarnath Yatra.
He said that after last year’s incident, the government has taken adequate measures to prevent the situation and ensure the yatries will not face hardships.
“The central government last year decided that the maintenance of the routes leading to Amarntah cave will be maintained by BRO and thus simultaneously adequate measures have been taken this year to ensure smooth pilgrimage,” he said.
He added that the number of pilgrims is increasing every year and this year, they are expecting an arrival of five lakh yatries and the central government has directed the BRO to ensure both the tracks of Amarnath cave are maintained well.
“The machines and raw material have been airlifted through helicopters and the work is going on at a rapid pace,” he said, adding that the work is expected to be completed by June 15.
The track has been widened while the measures have been taken to prevent the landslides and other related incidents, he said—(KNO)
