Although the rainfall last month made some impediments following the dry weather, we continued the work, he said.
The Chief Engineer said that last year the restoration and resurfacing work started in April, while in the present year; the work was started around February. The scheduled event of G-20 event in the month of May in Srinagar also paced up the work and in Srinagar, we cover around 5.7 km every day, he said.
In district Srinagar, a road stretch of around 400 km falls under our domain for which the restoration work has already started, Rafiq said, adding, “All the required restoration, and resurfacing in Srinagar will be taken up. Currently, the work is being carried out at various locations in Srinagar.”
According to the R&B Department officials, Srinagar has a road stretch of around 1758 km of which 1394 km road stretch is being looked up by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), while the remaining road stretch falls under the department which also includes a minor road stretch falling in Budgam district.
It is pertinent to mention here that people from several parts of the valley have been demanding blacktopping and upgradation of their roads, saying they experience a plethora of issues in both dry and rainy weather—(KNO)
