Srinagar : National Conference President and Member of the Parliament from Srinagar, Dr Farooq Abdullah has asked the Lieutenant Governor administration to reconsider shifting of DIET and JK-SCERT offices to the Government Boys High School premises in Sonwar.
Abdullah in a statement has said, “A deputation comprising representatives of Sonwar, Shivpora, Indira Nagar and Batwara areas met me yesterday at our Party Headquarters in Srinagar.”
“It was brought to my notice that the offices of DIET and JK-SCERT are being shifted by the Education Department to the Government Boys High School premises, Sonwar Srinagar,” he said.
The NC president also said that the locals have also stated that shifting of the offices will not only hamper the academic as well as extracurricular activities of the students there. “It is also going to affect the up-gradation of the school to the Higher Secondary level.”
Abdullah said, “In addition to the above, as I gathered, the main cause of resentment by the locals against this decision of the government seems their apprehension that the ground of the said school, which is being used as a play field by the youth of the area since last fifty years, will not be available to them anymore for sports activities.”
He requested LG Manoj Sinha to look into the matter. “I will be grateful, if you kindly look into this personally and have the matter reconsidered in view of the present scenario when a large number of our youth have fallen on the wrong side towards the drugs.”
