Sopore : The residents of Bagh-e-Gulshan locality of Sopore town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have expressed concern over the uncovered manholes and dilapidated road conditions, saying that despite repeated requests, the concerned department “doesn’t bother” to redress these issues.

The residents  said, “The uncapped manholes and big potholes are posing a serious threat to passersby. These pose threat to the lives of school children of a nearby government high school as well.”

“The drain collapse bears witness to the bad quality of work and material used by contractors. The manholes in the area have been closed by placing stones around them; a few are covered with cardboard boxes, while some are left uncapped,” they said.

The locals said they themselves fixed the potholes several times, “but not a single person from the department came to fix it despite our repeated pleas”.

They said the road also is in a dilapidated condition as half of the stretch from Chankhan to Bagh-e-Gulshan has not been repaired for long.

“We also approached the concerned authorities several times but no steps were taken to repair the road,” said Nayeem Ahmed, a resident of Bagh-e-Gulshan.

The residents have reiterated their appeal to the district administration to look into the matter—(KNO)
