Protesters block highway to demand action
SRINAGAR : As the braid chopping incidents have spread across Kashmir and intensified in southern parts of Kashmir, the residents of Wanpoh on Friday blocked the Srinagar-Jammu highway near Wanpoh railway station in Anantnag district to protest against braid-chopping. They were demanding action against the culprits.
The incidents of braid chopping have created confusion and chaos in the valley which resulted in apprehensions. A non-local was thrashed in Qaimoh last night after being accused of being a braid chopper, latter admitted to a hospital.
Another person apprehended by locals in Sherpora locality of old town Anantnag last night, according to police, is a drug peddler. An official identified him as Gowhar Ahmad from Budgam district.
Nearly two dozen incidents of mysterious hair chopping have been reported from Kashmir, with nearly fifteen incidents from Kulgam and Islamabad districts during past couple of weeks.
On Wednesday, locals in Chimmer village of Kulgam accused the army of coming to the aid of a braid chopper apprehended by them.
Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. So far the police and the authorities have been clueless.
