SRINAGAR: Despite an inquiry was called in an alleged case of negligence and lethargic attitude of Pediatricians at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Sopore, no action has been taken so far by the authorities in this extremely crucial public grievance.

Sources said that the inquiry Committee consists of three doctors constituted by the Director Health Service Kashmir, Dr Saleem-Ur-Rehaman has submitted a verbal report to the director.

Sources said that there is a clear attempt to shield the doctors responsible for neonatal death on August 11 allegedly, followed by medical negligence of a newborn from August 12 to August 15 in the hospital, as no written report was sought from the inquiry committee.

Reliable Sources in the directorate said that the report of the inquiry committee is adverse to doctors in the recent negligence cases. “We have met director few days ago. He assured us that the grievance of people will be addressed. Director assured us to constitute an inquiry team not only matter related to neonates but also other problems faced by the people at hospital”, said General Secretary, Rayees Kaloo  of Civil Society Sopore.

He said that the inquiry has proven mare an eyewash as the directorate has not reportedly sought a report in black and white. He adds that the civil society of Sopore will not allow these doctors to work until they are not taken to task.

Earlier Civil Society Sopore had also alleged negligence of doctors in the hospital, resulting in neonatal death besides serious health conditions. The Civil Society members had appealed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene and take action against the doctors involved in the negligence where life is involved.

Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Haji Abdul Rashid Dar from Sopore told, “The government has failed to provide a better health care. I have already brought into the notice of Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhaghat, the problem faced by the people at SDH Sopore. He did not show any seriousness.”

He said that the government is posting officer of their convenience and fails to get work done with sincerity. “Director Health Service didn’t bother to pick-up my phone. Ministers of this government are inaccessible. Nothing will happen. Nothing will change. People should know the truth. They have no value for life. They don’t listen to the grievances of MLA, so how come they will listen to the agony of a poor man”, he said.

He adds that the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti should intervene into the issues rendering people to suffer in hospitals.

Pertinently the matter came into the notice of government when a lot of hue and cry came up in media from the Sub District Hospital (Sopore), District Baramulla wherein several parents have claimed that the pediatricians posted in the hospital do not take care of proper screening of new born babies.
