The Day of Arafah is an Islamic holiday that falls on the 9th day of Dhu al-Hijjah of the lunar Islamic Calendar. It is the second day of the Hajj pilgrimage, and the day after is the first day of the major Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha. Arafah is the day in which the human rights were established. It was the day of Arafah in which Prophet (S.A.W) delivered his last sermon.

Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, markets in Kashmir are wearing a festive look with people in hordes thronging shopping centres to shop for their favourite products, while the rush for bakery products, mutton, and garments on Saturday increased manifold. Eid-ul-Azha is likely to be celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir on sunday.

Kashmir Valley is all set to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha on Sunday with traditional fervour and gaiety. Markets across the Valley, including the summer capital Srinagar, wore a festive look on Arafah as people came out in large numbers to shop.
People in Kashmir usually observe Eid-ul-Azha for three days and the festival begins with congregational prayers in the morning. However, holidays are officially observed for the first two days of the festival.

As the day proceeded, there was a huge rush out on every street. The lanes, by-lanes of the old city were stuck with huge jams giving the difficult time for pedestrians to move out.

The business hub Lal Chowk, Goni Khan and Maharaja Bazaar in the city witnessed a heavy rush of shoppers, leading to traffic chaos on all major routes.
Fearing that the roads witness heavy traffic jams, some locals said they prefer to shop during the evening as the rush of shoppers lessens during that time.
