SRINAGAR : A policeman serving as a PDP MLA’s driver has been arrested in connection with investigations into attack on Amarnath pilgrims this week, police sources said today.
Touseef Ahmad, a policeman from the security wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police and driver of legislator from Wacchi, Aijaz Ahmad Mir’s was detained for questioning two days ago.
Touseef was formally arrested yesterday as part of investigations into militancy-related activities in south Kashmir, police sources said. The sources said two other people, suspected to be over ground workers for militants, have also been detained for questioning.
It was not immediately clear whether Ahmad, who was posted as Mir’s driver seven months ago, has any direct link to the attack on Amarnath pilgrims at Anantnag on Monday that left seven Yatris dead and 21 others injured.
However Congress leader and MLC, G N Monga told Press Trust of Kashmir that government has no right to talk about militancy as MLA’s driver is involved in yatra attack.
He added that Kashmiri will never do such kind of inhuman, coward acts. He said Govt should stand with what they are saying and ensure the same action against the elements who are involved in doing such acts. He further added that govt should find out the reason behind this attack so that such attacks can be prevented near future.
National conference leader, MLA Pahalgam Altaf Ahmad Bhat told Press Trust of Kashmir, “I strongly condemn the attack. State and central government must take action against those who are involved in such crime.
He added that I didn’t believe that state govt can do anything. He said that ‘I request central government PM Modi, Rajnath Singh that they allow CBI to investigate the attack. He further added that who so ever is involved in attack must be published according to law.
Senior BJP leader, MLC Ramesh Arora told Press Trust of Kashmir that ‘who so ever is involved in the attack should be treated equally before the law. He said that, “Islam teaches to respect all religions and the killing of Amarnath pilgrims was an anti-Islamic and anti-mankind act” and we as a human strongly condemn this coward act”.
At least, around 20 persons have been detained for questioning by the police in connection with the investigations into the yatra attack but nothing has been come out so far.
