Srinagar, June 6 : National Conference (NC) President and Member Parliament Farooq Abdullah on Monday said that unless an elected government comes in Jammu and Kashmir, the miseries of people will not go away.

“The present regime is not a people’s representative government…this is a bureaucratic set up,” Farooq told mediapersons in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said elections should happen and a people’s representative government must come to redress the miseries of people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Unless there is a people’s representative government, the miseries of people will not go off,” added the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said Article 370 of the Constitution was in no way a hurdle in militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

“If the Central government was claiming that Article 370 was a hurdle in bringing back the normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, why do the day-to-day incidents of militancy happen?,” he asked.

He said since August 5, 2019 when Article 370 was abrogated, militancy incidents have not come to a halt, rather they were still going on grievously. “Article 370 was not responsible for the situation in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

Farooq said the situation in Kashmir was worse, even dangerous and its implications were evident on the nation.

He said a student of Kashmir has been beaten in Chandigarh, which was a matter of grave concern and such things should not happen.

Farooq said it was up to the government now, how they would provide security to pandits. He said they (pandits) should stay here with their own will, not with force.

“Unless they feel they are safe, they will continue to leave from here,” added the former Chief Minister.

He said, “During our last meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, we urged him to call an all party meeting to discuss all issues, which could bring normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir and whatever from our party, National Conference would possibly do that.” (UNI)
