Srinagar: Due to the scarcity of field and lab technical manpower in Food Safety Organisation (FSO), administration to utilize the services of interns, graduate and post graduate students of the relevant field, in the food analysis lab to enhance the testing capacity.
In a meeting, Divisional Commissioner, P.K Pole was informed by the Deputy Commissioner food and safety that students from University of Kashmir, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), SKAUST and SKIMS deemed university are roped up for testing in food analysis lab to check the food adulteration in the Valley.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the administration is looking to explore the possibility of enhancing testing and sampling of food adulteration up to 1000 per month.
Pole in a meeting also directed that the university authorities shall also explore the possibility for obtaining accreditation for the food analysing labs, so that a good number of samples can be processed and reported as well on a daily basis.
Further, it was informed that in-charge officers of the labs shall also attend the office of Food Analysis with regard to subject matter.
“License is being issued to the butchers after analysing their health and t special health check-ups of the butchers shall be conducted by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Municipal Committee of the districts through Epidemiologists and whosoever will fail the standard shall not be allowed to carry the job until and unless properly cured,” reads the directions.
The Divisional Commissioner was also informed that the Food Safety Organisation, Jammu and Kashmir, is maintaining the first spot on the food standard index of India—(KNO)
