Srinagar: Twelve BJP leaders and workers have been killed by gunmen in Kashmir Valley in last two year, officials said on Tuesday.
The newest among the victim was Javid Ahmad Dar who was killed inside his residence in Brazloo Jageer area of Kulgam at around 1630 hours today.
As per police, neither Dar nor anybody, even local BJP leader, approached for his security or share his name in the list of protected persons.
On August 9, BJP Sarpanch Ghulam Rasool Dar of Redwani Kulgam and his wife Jawaira Bano, panch from same party and area, were shot dead by militants inside rented accommodation in old Eidgah Anantnag. A PSO posted with them was absent at the time of incident and was subsequently suspended.
Prior to the husband-wife duo, BJP worker Rakesh Pandita was killed at Tral Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on June 2.
Two BJP councilors—Shamas-u-din Peer of Khushal Colony Sopore and Riyaz Ahmad Peer of Negli Sopore were killed near Municipal Office in the apple town of the north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on March 29 this year, a senior police officer told GNS.
Last year, three BJP leaders and workers Sheikh Waseem Bari, his brother Sheikh Umer Bari and their father Sheikh Bashir Ahmad were killed at Mulimabad bandipora when they were at their shop opposite police station. 11 PSOs deputed for their security stayed back in trio’s house, adjacent to the shop, when the attack took place and were subsequently suspended.
On 6 August 2020, BJP worker—Sajad Ahmad Khanday— was killed at Vessau Kulgam.
On August 2020, Abdul Hamid Najar was killed near his residence at Ompora Budgam while another worker of the saffron party, Fida Hussain Najar, was shot dead at Y K Pora on 29 October 2020. (GNS)
