Joint Market checkings held accross the District Bandipora; Rs 16000 fine imposed on erring traders, One Shop sealed.

BANDIPORA : On directions of Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmed, a joint market checking squad of Department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) , Municipal Committees, Legal Metrology, Food Safety, Animal Husbandry and revenue officers held a market checking in Bandipora and realized a fine of Rs 16000 from erring shopkeepers in Bandipora.

Taking strong note of the complaints of over-pricing, the district administration launched a massive district-wide inspection drive to curb over pricing and take immediate action against instances of violations.

During the inspections at several markets of the district 40 Kgs of rotten vegetables, 35 Kgs Fruit and 25 Kgs of Sub-Standard Milk was destroyed on spot while one bakery shop was also sealed in Hajin area for violating Covid SOPs at the shop.

Teams also inspected designated places for sale of Sacrificial Animals in Bandipora, Hajin, Sumbal to check if the animals are sold at approved rates. They urged the people to strictly follow covid guidelines.

Officers of FCS&CA along with Tehsildars of respective Tehsils and other officers conducted inspection of various business establishments including vegetable, fruit sellers, Kiryana, Bakery, LPG distributors and fuel dispensing pumps at different markets of Bandipora Sumbal, Hajin and Ajas areas. During the inspection, several traders were booked under different laws for violation of various laws and a fine of Rs 16000 was imposed on erring traders.

On the occasion, Officers stressed on the traders to avoid over-pricing and other illegal and unethical practices and urged them to follow the rules in letter and spirit. He also asked the vendors to follow the packaged commodity rules and other Metrology Acts besides following Covid SOPs strictly.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Owais Ahmad said that the drive will continue on a regular basis across all district markets to keep a check on traders and shopkeepers for indulging in overcharging and other unethical activities.

He said he has directed all the concerned officers to ensure regular inspections of markets falling within their respective jurisdiction and take strict action against those indulging in overpricing and other malpractices.
