Sopore : Residents of Yemberzalwari, a remote village in Sopore, Friday complained about the non-availability of basic health facilities at sub-centre of health the department, thus leaving the patients vulnerable.
The locals alleged that the claims being made by the Government regarding better health care in remote areas have fallen flat on the ground.
Locals said that the sub-centre was started in a rented house a decade ago, however, two years ago, the owner of the house dismantled his house, “since then the hospital is running in a tin-shed.”
“Not a single doctor or other medical staff have come here for the last two years, as a result of 120 families are facing immense problems in the village. Either take this hospital equipment back from here or appoint medical staff in the sub centre,” the locals said.
A local Mohammad Jabbar Lone said that the villagers have gone to the authorities several times requesting them to resolve the issue but haven’t received any response from them.
“In the absence of medical staff, we are being forced to take patients to Tujjar or Sopore even for minor ailments,” he said.
“At least one employee should have been posted here so that people can have a sigh of relief,” Lone said, adding that the government should have moved this centre from here to another safe place as it is running in an unsafe tin-shed for the last two years.
The villagers made a fervent appeal to the District Development Commissioner (DDC), Baramulla and Director of Health Service Kashmir to intervene and provide necessary medical staff and proper medical facilities in the health centre—(KNO)
