Erratic power supply irks Sheeri residents in Baramulla

Baramulla: Residents of Sheeri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district here have expressed resentment against the Power Development Department (PDD) for failing to provide adequate electricity in the bone chilling cold of the ensuing winter.

Scores of residents hit the streets and blocked Baramulla-Muzaffarabad road to protest against the PDD. The protestors said that they are being forced to reel under darkness.

“Some areas are witnessing unprecedented power crises since past many months,” the locals of the area said, adding that people here have suffered badly due to the erratic power supply.

The residents alleged that PDD officials of ignoring their plights and demanded immediate redressal of their grievances.

“Authorities have completely neglected us. We are being forced to reel under darkness,” they said, adding that the department is not even bothering to adhere to the power schedule.

They added that students in many villages are the worst sufferers as they are not able to study from evening hours, appealing the authorities concerned to look into the matter at an earliest.

However, PDD officials told that the people are consuming extra power in terms of boiler, heaters etc. “People must use power judiciously. If people would cooperate, there would be less cuts,” a PDD official said(KNO)
