Srinagar : After remaining suspended due to slippery road, Srinagar-Leh road was thrown open for traffic on Monday.
The road had been closed for traffic on Sunday following a mild snowfall.
An official told news agency KNT that the road at Zojila, Minimarg, Shaitan Nallah and Drass had become slippery due to fresh snowfall on Sunday afternoon and with the improvement in weather, it was thrown open for traffic.
He said stranded vehicles carrying essential supplies were allowed to ply on the road from Srinagar to Kargil.
Meanwhile, traffic from Jammu to Srinagar was allowed to ply on Srinagar-Jammu Highway.
An official said that only one way traffic was allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar.”Commuters are advised to follow the SOP issued by the Government to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” he said adding that government forces have already been advised not to ply against advisory or traffic plan in view of traffic congestion on Jammu-Srinagar Highway. They may ply from Jammu towards Srinagar.
The official while throwing light on the status of Mughal Road said that only vehicles (load carriers) loaded with fresh fruits were allowed from Herpora (Shopian) from 11:00 hours to 16:00 hours towards Poonch. No vehicle was allowed after cut of timings. Moreover, no passenger vehicle or pedestrian movement was allowed on Mughal Road.
The official told KNT that Anantnag- Kishtwar road remained closed while traffic on Kupwara-Karnah road, Kupwara-Keran road, Kupwara-Machil road and Bandipora-Gurez road plied normally.
“Train Services continue to remain suspended across Kashmir Valley.” Meanwhile, a MeT official said that weather is expected to remain dry in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNT)
