Locals in Kangan block Srinagar-Leh road, demand adequate water supply

Ganderbal: The residents of Check Prang village in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday staged a protest against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide them drinking water and blocked Srinagar-Leh highway.
The villagers said that administration has failed to provide the basic facilities to them, adding that the village is facing acute water scarcity and there is no one to take care of it.
They said that Jal-Shakti department (PHE) has left them on God’s mercy, adding that the department has miserably failed to provide drinking water to them.
The protesters said that they have approached the authorities many times and received assurance of getting the regular water supply soon but no step has been taken in this matter so far.
They said that their women folk face lot of hardships in fetching water from different spots. Even this summer season, they are without drinking water while the concerned authorities didn’t pay attention to it, they added.
The locals said that the government should pay attention as they have been without drinking water for the last three months and are facing difficulties to fetch drinking water.
