BANIHAL: Hundreds of students on Tuesday staged a protest by blocking the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Banihal town against alleged thrashing of students by paramilitary CRPF troopers in Chareel village.
Reports said that students from various schools and colleges in the area gathered on the highway and marched towards Banihal town where they blocked the highway.
They were demanding action CRPF troopers who allegedly thrashed few students in Chareel village, five kilometers ahead of Banihal.
The students alleged that the troopers who were travelling from Kashmir to Jammu manhandled and thrashed few students.
“After the students protested against the CRPF action, policemen resorted to baton charge,” said a student.
The incident comes a day after dozens of students suffered injuries in forces action during clashes in various parts of Kashmir valley against an assault on students at Govt Degree College Pulwama during last week.
