SRINAGAR: The illegal refilling of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is allegedly turning out to be a business in the Gulab Bagh area of Srinagar under the very nose of authorities.
Locals alleged that the LPG is openly transferred from a cooking gas cylinder to commercial illegally in a black market. Locals said that it is an irony that the authorities are unmoved against this illegal trade besides people are forced to suffer to get their share of subsidized LPG in time. They alleged that the each dealer manage to get 10 to 15 cylinders from ever stock.
They also alleged that sometime consumers are forced to pay extra for the LGP on pretext of non availability. “The use of domestic gas for commercial purpose goes unabated in the city and no one is held accountable for this illegal trader,” said Abdul Hamid said a consumer. They alleged CAPD for lethargic approach adding that there is no check on this black marketing from the department.
The consumers told PTK that this black marketing of LPG is going on unabated across Kashmir Valley adding that the authorities are in deep slumber.
“Ironically a LPG cylinder was booked under my consumer id without my information. I talked to the distributor and he informed me that it was booked mistakenly. But I believe it must have been booked to be sold in the black market,” one of the local told PTK.
Though the claims of government to curb this illegal trade seems nowhere on the ground. Pertinently the government had planned to introduce “premium” range of customers to streamline the distribution system.
