Srinagar : A local BJP leader Mehraj ud Din Malla, who is also Vice President Municipal Committee Watergam Baramulla was abducted from outside his home on Wednesday morning.
This comes days after a BJP leader and his two family members were killed in Bandipora.
Locals told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS)that some unknown persons came Wednesday morning and abducted Meraj outside his home in North’s Kashmir Baramulla district.
“Before anybody could react, he was taken away,” locals said.
In a video message, his daughter has appealed to abductors to release her father.
“Who so ever has abducted my father, I beg please release him,” she said.
Similarly, his son said Mehraj was with his friend outside home when he was abducted.
“I was in Mandi when my family informed me that my father has been abducted. His friend told us that five people came and bundled him in their car. His mobile was handed over to his friend. I appeal them please return my father,” he said.
DC Baramulla G N Itoo said police has launched a manhunt to trace him. “He was seen at 11 am walking on the road in Handwara. Police is searching him,” he told KINS.
J&K BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur said Mehraj was walking on the road outside his home when some people stopped the car and took him away.
He is son of Ghulam Muhammad Malla, who joined BJP in 2012.
SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal said police has launched a manhunt to trace him. “We are looking into it who took him away,” he told KINS.
At least two youth leaders of the Bhartiya Janta Party from north Kashmir have resigned for the last five days.
On Saturday, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) president from Baramulla, Marouf Bhat tendered his resignation from the party.
“I hereby resign from the BJYM as a member and any post I held as part of it. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to work for the party,” Bhat said.
He was quoted by a national newspaper saying, “We can sacrifice our lives for the nation, but not of our children. I have been attacked twice in the past, yet nothing has been done about it. I have not been given even a single personal security officer.”
While on Tuesday, BJP’s Vice President for Kupwara Asif Ahmad also resigned from the party.
“I am from a well off family. I did not join BJP to make money but to work for my people. But we are not allowed to work by officials. BJP has no value on the ground. Officials are not bothered to listen to us and address issues of people,” he told KINS.(KINS)
