Jammu : Intelligence agencies in Jammu division have started a probe regarding WhatsApp calls being received by some people from unknown numbers wherein the caller informs the receiver about winning a lottery.
Sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that intelligence agencies have started a probe in the matter with apprehension that these WhatsApp calls are being generated from across the Line of Control and could result in compromising the security of the user’s phone.
Official sources said that some people have received WhatsApp calls from phone numbers starting with code “+92” with the caller claiming himself to be an employee of a lottery company and informing the users about winning some lottery.
“We have apprehension that such calls could be generated in an ‘online’ mode and there is every possibility that such calls are being rooted from across the Line of Control,” intelligence sources said.
They added that it has been an old modus operandi of some agencies across, to disguise the caller on one pretext or other in order to fetch security related information from this side.
“We have received information about such calls being received by people on their WhatsApp and we are looking into the matter,” the sources said—(KNO)
