Kupwara: Contractual employees working under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employees Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in Kupwara on Wednesday appealed Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir UT, GC Murmu to address long-pending issue of regularisation of their service in Rural Development Department.

District Media Advisor Kupwara Wani Ashfaq of “MGNREGA Employees Association Kupwara” in a press statement issued here urge the LG Murmu to resolve the long pending demand of regularisation of MGNREGA employees against the vacant posts lying vacant in the Department of Rural Development.
The statement further reads that there are many posts lying vacant in the department and they appeal Govt. of J&K UT to appoint them against the posts as they have been working in the department for years.
Total no. of employees working in RDD under MGNREGA in J&K UT is around 4200.
Employees working under MGNREGA are waiting for their regularisation and have been working without job security since 2005.
“Highly educated youth have been working in MGNREGA with full dedication in RDD for years on a meager honorarium that is not enough to support their families,” Wani said and urges Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu to regularise their services without any further delay.
He further added that a proposal was submitted by RDD to Govt of Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2018 for the absorption of contractual in the department but to date, there has been no further exercise by the Govt. in this regard thus putting the career of thousand at stake.
