Kupwara: In the aftermath of the recent scrimmage between police and doctors in Kashmir, Kupwara police held an interactive meet with Doctors to develop cordial relations in between during the COVID19 lockdown to fight and contain the spread of the virus.
The meeting was held days after the Jammu and Kashmir Police received backlash allegedly for stopping and harassing doctors who were on their way to duty in Kashmir in times of the Pandemic.
On Sunday Senior Superintendent of Police in Kupwara district, Ambarkar Shriram Dinker extended an invitation to Doctors in Kupwara for interaction meet. Dinner was served to doctors by the police in addition to bouquets presented.
“Various issues pertaining to District Kupwara in times of COVID19 were discussed in the meeting. The main aim of the meeting was to uphold coordination between police and Medical workers in the district to fight COVID19,” a statement issued by District Health society Kupwara reads.
It further states, “Doctors are thankful of District police for their cooperation during the lockdown, with no incident of confrontation in between.” Police and health workers are hopeful that no such incident will occur in the future as well as both agreed to work in coordination and hold interactive sessions as well.
The meeting was attended by SSP Kupwara Ambarkar Shriram, ASP Kupwara, Ifroz Ahmad, DySP Hq. Mudasir Ahmad, District Health Officer Dr Ab Gani Dar, President Doctors Association Kupwara Dr Aijaz Ahmad Bhat among other police officers and doctors.
Recently, Syed Maqbool, an ace senior intervention cardiologist at Srinagar’s Super Speciality Hospital alleged detention, humiliation and harassment by Srinagar police for asking a cop on duty at Naka (checkpoint) to allow him to attend his duty at the hospital.
Dr Tajamul Khan, a senior doctor who is heading Health sector in District Bandipora of Jammu and Kashmir was allegedly stopped when he was heading towards Quarantine centre to take a review of the situation there and inspect sample collection Centre. The video of the incident went viral.
A top Gynecologist at Srinagar’s LD hospital also accused police of harassment in the times of COVID19 lockdown.
To revive the coordination and relation police as a goodwill gesture presented sweets and flowers to Medical workers in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir
