GANDERBAL : Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Leader Ruheena Shahzad said that the farmers whose fruit crops were destroyed due to the hailstorm in Ganderbal district be provided compensation by the government.
In a press statement Shahzad urged that areas like Gutlibagh, Kangan, Yarmuqam, Chuntwaliwar, Chanthan,Watlar, Arhama and their adjacent areas be visited immediately by the officials to take a stock of the situation.
While advocating relief for Ganderbal farmers BJP leader also demanding an on spot assessment of the losses. She said, “The extent of damage to the orchards here can be gauged from the fact that heavy pellets of hail lashed the crops for long time due to which the apple,Cherries and other orchards have been rendered devastated”.
While justifying the demand for relief to these farmers, Ruheena said that the Governor administration had earlier announced a waiver for the farmers who had availed KCC loans but were neglected because the government had not covered farmers whose loans were more than Rs. 50,000. “Most farmers have taken loans of over Rs. 2 lakh. Government has once again shocked the poor farmers with its hollow promise of a loan waiver,” she said.
She added that the hailstorm was sure to deteriorate the financial and living condition of farmers already under the burden of crop losses and loans amid COVID-19 Pendamic.
