Seek intervention of Divisional Commissioner

Sumbal : Locals of Sumbal Division in Bandipora district are alleging malpractices and fraud in PM Kisan Scheme. They demand inquiry and action against certain employees of Agriculture Office, Sumbal.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi is an initiative by the government of India in which all farmers will get up to Rs 6,000 per year as minimum income support.

Locals from Shilvat village told KNT that a genuine list of farmers was handed over to the Agriculture Department, but what happened was shocking. “The department ignore genuine farmers and instead provided benefits under the scheme to those having political connections,” they said.

“The Agriculture Department misused the funds under this scheme. The genuine and deserved farmers failed to get any financial assistance, instead those recommended by top officers and politicians availed the benefits,” the locals said and demanded an impartial probe into what they said ‘corruption and bundling’.

They also alleged that those who were provided cash assistance of Rs 2000 under this scheme were asked to return Rs 500, which they did.

The protesters sought the intervention of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.

Chief Agricultural Officer Bandipora Farooq Ahmad told KNT that all farmers will be included in the list and they too get financial assistance.

When asked about the allegations of fraud in the Department he said will investigate the matter and things will be sorted once the pandemic Covid-19 is over. (KNT)
