Srinagar : The health workers with underlying medical conditions and elderly can contract the deadly coronavirus can prove vulnerable and can act as silent carries engulfing a huge population especially among the high risk group stating that the new virus may behave differently in them.
Talking exclusively to News Agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Dr Nisal ul- Hassan, who is Associate Professor Medicine at GMC Srinagar advised the immune test for all the health workers and for those with age factor and medical underlying conditions.
The renowned flu expert said: “We have health workers with medical underlying conditions, even the young have some health issues. We have seen them with, hypertension, cardio vascular disease, chronic lung disease or diabetes. These are vulnerable lots, even if they get a mild illness, they would became prone for complication and even death also.”
He said the people with age factor and medical underlying conditions to take extra precautions and stay home the same applying to the health care workers as well: “The older adults and young as well are more vulnerable to get the severe disease, the worker dealing with the patients for longer are at high inoculum (if they get a virus they get a lot of it).”
Dr Nisar said: “We are not hard pressed yet because most of the patients don’t need hospitalization, we can spare these people (health care workers) from there, if not from the hospital at least from the place where COVID-19 patients and suspects are stationed and especially not put them in direct contact.”
He said that if a health care worker gets involved, that can be more vulnerable. “If one gets infected he can be a silent carrier and infect a huge population it includes the infected can transmit it to the patient as well who are at the high risk (someone with ailing conditions) visiting the hospital,” Dr Nisar said—(KNO)
