Hi-tech vehicles deployed as part of highway patrols; Boleros, TUVs replace existing vehicles with GOs

Jammu : In a major step towards modernization of Jammu and Kashmir police by the Union Home Ministry, a new fleet of vehicles have been inducted in the police across the Union Territory to ensure “better policing’ , timely completion of investigating and reaching the crime spot well on time.

The step is aimed towards upgradation of transport system in JK police which is first responder in challenges especially law and order problem and counter insurgency front etc, officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)

They said that the process for upgradition of transport in police was initiated almost a year ago by the Union Home Ministry that released funds under police modernization program.

“The matter regarding need to upgrade transportation of police was also discussed in several meetings of top brass held at Union Home Ministry after which the Ministry accorded nod and process was set into motion for which necessary formalities were completed,” an official privy to the development told KNO.

Sources said that commissioning of new vehicles has now started in the UT. “Territorial officers of executive police are first to receive new fleet of vehicles,” they said. In the first go, dozens of Tata Xenon, a high power vehicle, have been commissioned as highway patrols across the ten district of Jammu zone.

“These vehicles have proved highly beneficial for Border Security Force in patrols along International Border,” source said. “J&K Police launched highway patrols in all ten districts of Jammu zone.”

The vehicles shall respond all contingencies on highways of Lakhsnpur, Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Udhampur, Ramban, Doda, Kishtawar, Rajouri, Poonch and Mughal Road, tweet reads further.

It further mentioned that vehicles shall augment highway security grid and highway security check nakas. The sources told KNO that the existing vehicles with Gazetted Officers are being replaced with Bolero vehicles.

“Some Bolero vehicles with Gazetted Officers shall also be replaced with a new model of Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), a high power vehicle etc,” sources further said. They informed that new vehicles are being commissioned in a phased manner across the UT—(KNO)
