Srinagar : Senior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader,  Er Nazir Ahmad Yatoo  on Monday, demanded free ration for  all Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries.
In a statement  issued to Kashmir Patriot , Er Nazir Yatoo said that all the BPL families of Jammu and Kashmir should be given free ration by the government trough the Public Distribution System, and the government must ensure that this ration is home delivered to these families in order to prevent jumbling at ration  depots.
“Corona restrictions is causing terrible financial stress to poor families, who are in trauma at this very particular time, these families are unable to meet their day to day financial expenses, so it’s the good time for government to help these families by providing free ration,” Yatoo said.
Along with the lock-down decision, which includes the closure of traffic, Public movement and air traffic, Yatoo  said the government should announc an economic package  to  families having (below poverty line) ration cards.
Yatoo also said that, In view of possible loss of livelihood and other difficulties from last few days , the government should immediately provide advance  rice at the lower rate to other citizens of the valley.
Along with rice, the government should also give a cash assistance of Rs 1,500 per BPL  family towards purchase of other food items.
Er Nazir also  appealed government and  other sectors to pay the wages to their workers during the lock-down period without work as a goodwill gesture.
Yatoo said that, the People of Kashmir have showed great unity and solidarity with their 100 percent participation in Janata Curfew by staying indoors all across the UT. I want them to extend the same spirit till March 31 during the lock-down since it is the only way to protect ourselves from the deadly coronavirus contagion.
