Amid Coronovirus scare, non-local laborers entering valley without screening

Srinagar: In Jammu and Kashmir so far four coronavirus positive cases have been reported.  One among them is an elderly woman from Srinagar but during all this panic, large number of non-locals has managed to enter the valley without any proper screening.

Dozens of laborers and workers from Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have reached different parts of Kashmir amid coronavirus scare.

People talking to Kashmir News Trust complained that without proper screening, dozens of workers during past one week have reached different parts of Kashmir.

 On Saturday people from parts of valley asked how non local people entered into Kashmir without screening.

 Locals said that despite the team of health department and police have been checking and inquiring the visitors and tourists about their travel history, there are hundreds who have managed to enter the Kashmir without any screening.

 The residents of Ompora area of Budgam have also expressed concern over sudden appearance of a non local labourer group in the area.

 They demanded immediate intervention into the matter and requested concerned administration to ensure their screening.

 Same complaints were received from Awantipora and Tral areas of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district where locals said that a group of people from outside had recently come in their areas.

 The locals suspect their screening was not done properly. “These non local laborers came here on Monday. We do not know if they have been screen or not. We request the administration to conduct their screening,” Nighat Ara a local from Awantipora said.

 A group of non-local laborers, who recently arrived in Kashmir, said they do not know which route their driver used to take to reach the Valley. “We were not screened at any placed till we reached here,” said a 35 year old Mukesh of Bihar.

 Regarding this matter a senior official said that the health department has deputed the teams in different areas of Kashmir to conduct the screening of non local people.

 As per news reports, Director Health Services Kashmir (DHSK), Dr Samir Matoo said that they have blocked all alternative routes and are not allowing any one to enter Kashmir without proper screening.

 So far four people have tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir UT while as ten people have tested positive in the Ladakh UT.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India has now climbed up to 223, including 32 foreigners, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.

“The total number of positive cases of COVID-19 in India now stands at 223, including 32 foreigners. Four people have died so far, one each in Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra,” said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

As many as 23 people have been cured of the lethal infection which has claimed over 10,000 lives globally.

Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state from coronavirus with 52 people, including 3 foreign nationals, confirmed positive for the highly contagious virus.

While 28 cases have been reported in Kerala, the national capital has 17 people infected with coronavirus.

 With 3,405 victims from the coronavirus, Italy has passed China, with a rise of 427 fatalities. (KNT)
